Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Two Strangers and a Wedding…Nice To Meet You I Do?
A: The Energy 101.5 Two Strangers & A Wedding is an exciting radio social experiment where over a period of 8 weeks Energy 101.5 will find two complete straners, a guy and a girl, gets the girl to propose to the guy on-air and they meet for the very first time at the altar on the day that they get married. Radio listeners will for the first time ever in the history of Canada be exposed to “reality radio.” Not only will they have a “birds-ear” view of the entire process – from choosing the potential brides and grooms through to selecting the wedding dress – listeners will also get a chance to interact live on radio with the participants and through a audience voting process will play a big role in selecting the bride and her prospective grooms.
Q: Is this for real? Why on earth is the breakfast team doing this? It’s crazy!
A: It's a well known fact that the number of single people in today’s society is getting bigger! Individuals now spend more time and effort on their careers and less time finding a partner. Blind dates are becoming less common and in many ways have set the scene for speed and Internet dating. By exposing single people to our whole city and putting them through stringent checks from a variety of relationship experts, the likelihood of successfully matching two people is much higher. Two Strangers and a Wedding originated in New Zealand in 1998 and this first couple is today still happily married with two children. This social experiment has already taken place in the United States, Ireland, United Kingdom, Australia and Hungary.
Q: How will it work?
A: The pursuit to find Calgary's perfect match will start with a search for the perfect bride. Dozens of interviews will take place from hundreds of applicants. After a series of personality tests, interviews with marriage guidance counsellor, a matchmaker, a clairvoyant and psychologist, a polygraph exam, blood tests, criminal background checks, credit checks and then a vote by Energy 101.5 listeners, we will finally choose our bride. The guys will go through the same process with a final choice of five who will be quizzed by the brides’s parents, her best friend and our resident experts. Then it's up to the bride to choose her groom with the help of an expert and the Energy 101.5 audience – having spoken to him on-air and on the phone – but at no point meeting or seeing her. The final couple (the “Bride and Groom”) must be willing to participate in a Legal Ceremony on or about 30 October 2008.
Q: How will the selection process for the groom work?
A: A selection panel will choose prospective grooms from the application forms received. This panel includes Energy 101.5, our panel of experts and you the listeners. Thereafter the bride will get involved in the selection process. But remember, the bride will not meet the groom in person until the day of the ceremony.
Q: Is this a competition? Are there prizes?
A: This is NOT a competition and there are no prizes. After a tense but exciting 8 weeks of wedding trials and tribulations, complete with wedding gifts including outfits, rings, reception, cake, etc plus a one year lease of a Country Hills Toyota vehicle.
Q: How long will it run on air?
A: Starting on 15 September 2008 and for a period of 8 weeks, Energy 101.5 listeners can tune in daily to the Freeway and Meg Morning Show between 5:30AM - 9:00AM to be a part of the action and to find out what's happening with Two Strangers and a Wedding…Nice To Meet You I Do!
Q: Can anyone participate?
A: Please refer to the Terms and Conditions
Q: You suggest there’s a panel of experts – who are they?

In addition to ensuring that the identity of the person is correct, we will also follow the necessary procedures to check criminal and credit histories. Participants will also have to undergo blood tests for sexually transmitted diseases and HIV .
Q: How do I apply?
A: Application forms are available by clicking here.
Q: How will I know if I've been selected?
A: Once your application has been reviewed successful applicants will be invited to the next round which involves a credit, criminal & health checks, interviews and appraisals as well as a polygraph exam. From then, five finalist brides, then grooms, will be announced.
Q: What happens if, after the wedding the couple decide that they don't want to stay together?
A: Energy 101.5 hopes that this social experiment will act as a conduit and bring two people together to live “happily ever after.” However, we want both parties to feel comfortable that they have made the right choice and we believe that it will be both immoral and illegal to force them to stay together. Should they choose to not go through with the ceremony, Energy 101.5 respects their decision and accepts that they have made the right choice for themselves. |
